Direct TV VS Cable
Comparing Your Costs
Direct TV successfully launched itself into a market dominated by cable TV. Satellite TV managed to attract attention because it offerred quality and versatility at very seductive rates. The cable companies are now finding themselves priced out of the market in much the same way as yesterday’s fashions.
We have all learned that new technologies such as computers, MP3 players, digital cameras first hit the high tech electronics market with huge price tags. But as demand grows, and the technology required to create these items becomes more commonplace and prices come down quickly. However, with direct TV, the prices started at an affordable rate and this strategy made an instant impact on cable companies.
When comparing one item against another, it’s usual to compare similar items. In this case it’s all about television… both offer television programs. But that’s really where the comparison ends.
There is very little to actually compare when it comes to the prices offered by DirecTV or DISH and the prices offered by cable. TV Cable companies offer less service at a higher price than what the direct TV companies provide. In some cases at least twice as much!
Both of the direct TV companies offer multiple features along with state of the art satellite technology. Their monthly subscription cost amounts to a couple of visits to a certain well-known coffee shop! At more than twice the price, cable TV is offering less than half the programs and none of the satellite features.
One of the big stumbling blocks with a lot of new technology is the initial financial outlay. Here again the Direct TV companies found an edge. They do not charge for the equipment or for the installation.
You simply call them and if it’s possible to install and run the equipment in your area, then all you do is make an appointment and someone will come install your new satellite TV system.
Unless you happen to find a company offering a special right when you are ready to purchase cable, you will pay for both the equipment and the installation.
For this reason the Direct TV companies can easily persuade existing cable customers to switch. They get a more technologically advanced system without incurring any cost. AND they also attract those who are moving into their first homes. These new subscribers to the television marketplace are far more likely to choose the free services and cheaper to run system, over the more expensive basic one!
You don’t always get what you pay for…
Generally, the rule is: “You get what you pay for”. But most rules have exceptions. In this instance, direct TV is most definitely an exception … dish satellite tv not only costs less than cable, but gives you more for your money.
Direct TV is proving that it’s possible to do more, with less, and not have to charge a high price to do it. With over two million subscribers between DirecTV and DISH during 2005, it would appear that added value for money is now the way to go.
The real comparison is not whether to get direct tv or cable, but whether to get DirecTV or DISH Network.
